(AP Photo/Kirsty Wigglesworth) South Africa’s captain Temba Bavum called on Australia led by Pat Cummins to use the “Chokers” brand in its second World Championship in Lord’s World Championship.“While we were launching, we heard Aussies using the dreaded word: nitivity,” Bavum told reporters after the match.“We came up with a lot of faith and a lot of doubts. We got to the finals and there were doubts about the route we went.Bavum said he hoped that victory in MACE for the best test nation would raise the test cricket profile in South Africa, where no test matches for the upcoming home season 2025–26 are planned.“We want to play more test cricket,” he said. “We want to play against the larger nations. So I think it will lead to a long journey to make us much more attractive-so the so-called smaller nations.”Bavuma, the first black African specialized Batsman, playing a test cricket for Proteas, said his party was inspired by South African Springboks, who won four rugs of the World Cups – including the last two tournaments.
“The sun is up to us”: Temba Bavuma sucks it
“This is strange for this group, strange for me, for the country,” Bavuma told reporters.“I watched rugby boys and the biggest thing I admire is, with their success, they have accepted what the South African actually means.“Like South Africans, we are unique in many ways. Our presence and future are formed by our past and the way in which Springboks have gone about things, really captured everyone’s heart. It is something we were talking about – to try something special.”The captain said his players wanted to achieve the consistent success of earlier South African test teams, especially the parties that they held in 2013 to 2015 for three years as a result of finding charts before the test finals.“As a team, we said we would like to consider each other as a group after three or four years,” Bavuma said. “We would like to imitate what (former captain) Graeme (Smith) and his team.”
