The Telangana State Commission for Women said in a note issued on Saturday (Jan 3) that it has received several complaints against a YouTube channel called Naa Anveshana, alleging that its content includes derogatory and obscene remarks against women and portrays them as objects.
The commission said the complainants had flagged several videos from the channel that they claimed were offensive and degrading to women. “The commission collected the relevant video links and account details and began examining the material as part of the review process. The complaints also allege that some of the videos contain illegal elements, including content that violates the rights of children and material that could constitute a criminal offense under applicable laws,” the note said.
The women’s panel also said it had received complaints of highly inappropriate, obscene and emotionally hurtful remarks against Hindu deities in certain videos on the channel.
As the influencer associated with the channel currently resides outside India, the Telangana State Commission for Women referred the matter to the National Commission for Women (NCW). “The case has been referred to the NCW as it is the central authority with the power to initiate appropriate legal action and, if necessary, compel the person concerned to appear,” they added.
