A state delegation led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will meet the Prime Minister and other Union ministers in New Delhi to seek a special financial package to deal with the potential impact of El Nino on Telangana, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Sunday.
In a meeting at Kusumanchi after distributing the Kalyana Lakshmi checks, the minister told the beneficiaries that the delegation would submit a statement seeking adequate financial assistance and additional working days under the VB-G RAM G scheme.
Citing the expected intensification of El Nino conditions, Mr Reddy urged farmers to avoid growing a second crop in view of the potential impact of El Nino.
He said the state government was trying to save the first crop already grown and appealed to farmers to follow the official recommendations.
On the power situation, the minister said electricity is becoming increasingly difficult to get, even at ₹15 per unit, compared to ₹7-8 per unit earlier. He attributed the situation to the prevailing “power shortage” in the country.
He directed the officials to take precautionary measures to prevent drinking water shortage in the coming months in view of depleting ground water table.
Earlier, the minister had laid foundation stones for several development works in the mandal, including the overhead water tank, pipelines and BT roads.
