The Department of Transport has removed the RTA m-Wallet app, which stores important documents such as driving licenses and vehicle registrations, from the App Store and PlayStore.
According to transport department officials, the move is part of the Telangana government’s move to adopt and integrate its systems with the Sarathi and Vahan platforms. While the Sarathi portal handles learner and driving license operations, renew or duplicate existing licenses and update personal details, the Vahan portal handles vehicle registration, fitness, taxes and permits.
“We have received several informal inquiries about RTA m-Wallet. The (transport) department’s data integration with Vahan and Sarathi has been going on for the last few months. DigiLocker will be part of it where documents like driving licenses can be stored,” said a transport ministry official.
It was on March 23 that Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated the Vahan portal. This meant integrating the state into the national vehicle database. The move, he said, marked the adoption of modern technology necessary for effective data management and governance.
Meanwhile, the transport ministry on Thursday announced that it has generated a total revenue of ₹7097.38 crore during the financial year 2025-26. This represents a growth of 2.70% over the previous fiscal.
Compared to the total revenue target of ₹ 8,535 crore set for the same period, the department has achieved 83.16%, amounting to ₹ 7,097.38 crore, the ministry said.
They added that a significant share of the revenue came from lifetime tax collections, which stood at ₹4,714.63 crore. This was followed by quarterly tax of ₹961.02 crore, fees and service charges of ₹820.09 crore. The challans accounted for ₹ 310.80 crore. Enforcement activities such as inspections accounted for ₹212.49 crore and green tax collection was ₹78.35 crore.
The department also said that 91,637 electric vehicles would be registered in 2025-2026. With the Telangana government’s life tax waiver initiative, these exemptions reached ₹769.81 crore.
