Telangana SIR: 8.38 lakh claims, objections received by ECI so far

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has so far received a total of 8,38,558 application forms under the claims and objections phase, which is scheduled to end on October 7.

More than half of them are for new registrations, while a large part is also for repairs. Deletion requests are not very high.

A total of 4,43,705 applications are for fresh registration through Form 6, while 3,57,898 are for correction through Form 8, data shared by Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy said. The number of deletion applications through Form 7 stands at 30,676, while 6,279 applications are for registration of non-resident Indians through Form 6A.

The processing of these applications is progressing at a snail’s pace, with 8,14,160 applications still pending. Of these, 6,49,085 are pending for 45 days or more.

The highest number of applications, 3,04,354, were received from 15 constituencies of Hyderabad district where 1,90,595 applications were submitted for fresh registration. A total of 1,04,433 were earmarked for corrections, while only 5,256 were filed for deletion.

Medchal Malkajgiri registered 1,16,752 applications while Ranga Reddy district received 1,15,444. The lowest number was from Mulugu, 836.

A total of 4,90,600 notices remain to be delivered to anomalous and unmapped voters for the notification phase, which is scheduled to end on November 5.

Against the total number of 92,88,180 notices generated, only 87,97,580 were delivered to the respective voters. The data from the office of the Director General says that hearings were conducted in respect of 59,51,696 voters while 46,10,367 voters were approved at the level of Electoral Registration Officers/Assistant Electoral Registration Officers to be published in the final lists.

Including voters in whose name no notification has been generated, the total number of voters so far approved for the final lists is 1,41,02,982, which is more than half of the voters whose names appear in the draft voter lists.

However, voters who have not been approved by the ERO/AERO cannot be presumed to have been deleted as document verification is escalated to the concerned District Election Officers (DEOs). A large number of cases remain pending at this level.

As of Monday, a total of 4,12,923 applications are pending verification with the DEO. A total of 19,85,343 voters were verified at the DEO level. So far, only 4,570 entries have been found ineligible for publication in the final ranking.
