Hotels and restaurants across Telangana may face temporary closure if restrictions on the supply of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders continue, the Telangana State Hotels Association (TSHA) has warned, urging the state government to ease restrictions affecting kitchen operations in the hospitality sector.
In a statement submitted to Food and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday, the association said the ongoing supply cuts have caused severe operational difficulties for hotels and restaurants that rely on commercial LPG for daily cooking.
“If the situation persists, it could lead to temporary shutdowns of facilities, unemployment among workers and disruption of food services for the large number of people who depend on restaurants for their daily meals,” they said.
TSHA said hotels and restaurants play a significant role in Telangana’s tourism, hospitality and services industry. Apart from catering to travelers and tourists, these establishments provide affordable cooked meals to the thousands of workers, employees, students and migrant workers who depend on them daily. The association added that many employees working in hotels and restaurants also rely on kitchen facilities in their workplaces for their daily meals.
TSHA urges the state government to treat hotels and restaurants as essential services and ensure adequate and uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG cylinders to the sector.
