Telangana HC issues notice to Hyderabad Police Commissioner in contempt of court case

Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court issued a notice to Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar in contempt of court case.

The contempt petition was filed by 33-year-old businessman Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam of Aman Nagar in the Old City. He alleged that the commissioner willfully disobeyed the order issued by the judge on August 13 in the complaint he filed against the Bhavaninagar police who allegedly subjected him to torture without registering any case against him.

In this suit, the petitioner alleged that Bhavaninagar Inspector N. Karuna Kumar and Sub-Inspector B. Pochaiah illegally detained him on the night of August 6 and beat him black and blue. He said that despite filing a complaint with the Director General of Police, no action was taken against the police officers.

The judge disposed of the writ petition directing the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad to investigate the petitioner’s complaint and verify the CCTV footage of the police station to ascertain the facts regarding the allegations of illegal detention and torture of the petitioner. The businessman again moved the HK by filing a contempt of court suit, alleging that the order issued by the judge was deliberately disobeyed by the commissioner. The matter was adjourned to Monday for further hearing.
