Telangana Govt, SCR to prepare DPR for expansion of MMTS, future rail corridors around Hyderabad

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Monday called for the preparation of comprehensive Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for expansion of the Multimodal Transport System (MMTS), development of railway terminals along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR) corridors around Hyderabad and acquisition of land required for future rail links, including potential bullet train corridors.

Mr. Jaju chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat along with South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava and reviewed 21 key issues related to railway infrastructure and connectivity in Telangana. These included construction of railway underpasses and bridges, development of access roads, widening of roads, doubling of railway tracks and measures to improve public transport connectivity to Cherlapalli railway station.

Emphasizing the importance of rail connectivity for the economic, industrial and regional development of Telangana, the Chief Secretary directed departmental officials and district collectors to expedite the resolution of outstanding issues and ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated time frames.

SCR officials informed the meeting that DPRs for 17 railway projects covering 2,023 km, with an estimated investment of ₹50,870 crore, have already been submitted to the Railway Board for consideration. Assuring the full support of the state government, Mr. Jaju called for joint inspections by railway and state government officials to find practical solutions to the outstanding issues affecting the implementation of the project.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of ongoing railway projects, challenges related to land acquisition and administrative approvals required from various departments. The participants discussed measures to ensure timely implementation of projects and decided to prepare a DPR to mobilize funds under the PM Gati Shakti programme.

Mr. Jaju further instructed officials from the City Administration, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), Department of Revenue, Power and Roads and Buildings to work closely with SCR to facilitate implementation of railway projects across the state. The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretaries Vikas Raj and Naveen Mittal along with other senior officials.
