Telangana made a record purchase of paddy produced in the Kharif season with purchase of 70.82 million tonnes of grain from farmers, including 38.37 million tonnes of fine varieties and 32.45 million tonnes of common varieties, Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Saluting the farming community in Telangana for making this possible on Sankranthi, he said on Tuesday that farmers had played a key role in filling the state’s granaries with a bumper harvest. In a detailed statement, the minister highlighted the state’s remarkable success in procurement of paddy during the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season.
He called it a historic milestone and the highest ever recorded not only in Telangana but in any state in the country. By achieving a record purchase of 70.82 lakh tonnes of paddy this season, the state surpassed the previous high of 70,200,000 tonnes.
The minister said the purchase of bumpers directly benefited 13.97 million farmers through Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations. He noted that all the rice recovered was moved to the mills for processing.
The total MSP value of paddy field recovered has reached more than ₹ 16,912 crore and payments of ₹ 16,602 crore have already been made to farmers, achieving an impressive 98% payment. In addition, bonus payments totaling ₹1,425 crore have been made to support the farming community.
Procurement has been facilitated by the opening of as many as 8,448 shopping centers across the state, the minister said, assuring that the official machinery will continue to reach out to farmers as per scheduled timelines to ensure that the process remains seamless and farmer-friendly.
