In view of the widespread disruption caused by the nationwide bandh called by the OBC Joint Action Committee (JAC), Prohibition and Excise Commissioner C. Harikiran announced that the deadline for submission of applications for sale of liquor has been extended to October 23.
The draw which was originally scheduled for October 23 has been postponed and the District Collectors will now conduct the draw on October 27.
The bandh, called by the OBC JAC to demand increased reservation for Backward Classes, almost brought life to a standstill in Telangana on Saturday. The shutdown, supported by major political parties and social organizations, disrupted the operation of public transport and banking.
City buses remained off the roads for the day and several banks and offices were closed. The bandh also hit those who planned to file for liquor stores as Saturday was the original last day for filing. Officials said a large number of applicants were unable to complete the process due to the shutdown.
