Officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) in coordination with the Karkhan police on Friday (October 17, 2025) raided unlicensed premises in Namalagund, Secunderabad following information about illegal sale of prescription drugs. The campus was run by one M. Naresh.
During the operation, authorities seized 66 vials of “Termiva” and “Termin” injections, both containing mephentermine sulfate (30 mg/ml), a heart stimulant. According to the DCA report, the injections were stockpiled and illegally sold to gym goers for bodybuilding and performance enhancement.
Mephentermine Sulphate Injection is a prescription drug used in hospitals to treat hypotension (low blood pressure) that can occur during spinal anesthesia during surgical procedures. The drug works by stimulating the release of norepinephrine, which increases cardiac output and constricts blood vessels to increase blood pressure. Officials warned that the drug should only be administered under medical supervision, as improper use can cause serious cardiovascular complications and in extreme cases can become fatal.
DCA officials said the stimulant properties of mephentermine are increasingly being abused by some gyms and individuals to increase endurance and physical performance.
