Telangana Constitutes International Medical Tourism Scrutiny Committee in Govt. HOSPITAL
The Telangana government has constituted a committee to look into the introduction and promotion of international medical tourism in government hospitals in line with the state’s tourism policy 2025–2030, which identifies medical and wellness tourism as a key sector.
According to a Government Order (GO) issued by Health Minister Christina Z. Chongthu on June 6, the committee was mandated to examine the feasibility of establishing international medical tourism services within government health institutions and submit its recommendations to the government within one month.
The three-member committee comprises Gaurav Uppal, executive director of Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC), who will serve as a member; P. Gouthami, Executive Director, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC) and Dr. Nagari Bheerappa, former director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
One of the key responsibilities of the committee will be to examine the process of setting up a dedicated international medical tourism block at the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar. The panel will also identify the medical, surgical and diagnostic procedures that can be offered under international medical tourism in government institutions and recommend packages or price-fixing mechanisms.
In addition, the committee was asked to design patient support services for international patients, including language translation facilities, customized dietary arrangements, escort services and other related support systems aimed at improving the treatment experience for international visitors.
The panel will also recommend strategies to promote international medical tourism through market development initiatives in coordination with the Telangana Medical and Wellness Tourism Promotion Board.
