Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday said the holy month of Ramzan was a reminder of values such as cleanliness, compassion and service to others, even as he stressed that his government would continue to give top priority to minority communities.
Mr Reddy was accompanied by faith and political leaders, among others, when he addressed the state-organised annual Dawat-e-Iftar at the LB Stadium on Sunday. “This is not just a festival but an opportunity to remember our values. The message of Ramzan is to stay clean, help others and serve the society while fasting,” he said.
The chief minister said the festival symbolizes inter-communal harmony and promotes a sense of brotherhood among people of different faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians. He said the government belonged to the people and that he was their “brother”.
Mr. Reddy said his government would continue to do its best for the welfare of the minority community and cited several initiatives taken by the administration. He mentioned the appointment of Mohammad Azharuddin as a minister and Mohammed Ali Shabbir as an adviser to the Telangana government. He also pointed out the appointment of corporate chairmen from minority communities.
The CM further said that cricketer Mohammed Siraj has been appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while boxer Nikhat Zareen has also been appointed as DSP and that the government has extended financial assistance of ₹2 crore to support her training.
Mr. Reddy urged the people not to fall into the traps of people who try to sow discord between communities but to work together for the development of the state and the country. “We are all brothers and we have to work together for the development of Telangana,” he said, adding that the government would wholeheartedly support the minority communities.
