Telangana CM presents the Rugby Premier League trophy as Hyderabad Heroes win the season 2 title

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy handed over the HSBC Rugby Premier League (RPL) Season 2 trophy to the Hyderabad Heroes after the hosts defeated Mumbai Dreamers 41-17 in the final at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Mr.Reddy attended the summit as the chief guest and watched the finals before presenting the trophy. The champions received ₹45,000 in prize money, while Mumbai Dreamers bagged ₹25,00,000 as runners-up. Bengaluru Bravehearts finished third after defeating Chennai Bulls in the playoffs and received ₹15 lakh.

The second edition of the league organized by GMR Sports in association with Rugby India featured six men’s franchises competing in 34 matches over 13 days in Hyderabad. A total of 84 players participated, including 54 international players from 19 countries along with 30 Indian players.

The season also marked the launch of the Women’s Rugby Premier League, which features four franchises, 14 matches and 48 players. Delhi Redz emerged champions in the inaugural women’s competition.

Rugby India president Rahul Bose said the second season had surpassed the inaugural edition in terms of attendance, quality of competition, sponsorship, fan engagement and broadcast reach. Sujoy Ganguly, Chief Marketing Officer, GMR Sports, said the successful completion of the second season reflects the organization’s long-term vision of developing new sports ecosystems in India.
