The Telangana BJP is stepping up efforts to enroll the youth along with intellectuals and women as it gears up for the upcoming municipal elections. Party president N. Ramchander Rao said on Thursday that the party plans to allocate up to 90% opportunities to young leaders.

Addressing a rally after inducting new members into the state office, Mr. Rao said better job opportunities driven by the Centre’s economic reforms were making the BJP increasingly attractive to the youth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also enjoys considerable popularity among Gen Z, he said.

Accusing the Congress of trying to mislead the youth, Mr. Rao said there was a need to educate the present generation about how the then Congress government suppressed democracy during the Emergency in the mid-1970s.

“The Congress party must apologize to the people of the country for undermining the Constitution during the Emergency when fundamental rights were curtailed and many were jailed. The leaders who carry copies of the Constitution today have no moral right to speak about it,” he said.

He further argued that the emergency undermined the spirit of the constitution and disrespected Dr. BR Ambedkar and added that the BJP remains committed to upholding constitutional values and protecting the rights of citizens.

Earlier, while speaking to the media, Mr. Rao urged the citizens to participate in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Review (SIR) to ensure a clean and accurate voter list. “People should not believe falsehoods spread by Congress, BRS and MIM parties. No genuine voter will be removed,” he said.

While the Congress and BRS parties were “against” the SIR exercise, Mr. Rao pointed out that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had asked ministers to take the process seriously. He claimed that the BRS was opposed to the SIR due to weakened cadre strength and booth-level networks.

The BJP also accused Congress leaders of spreading fear among north Indian migrants by falsely claiming that they would lose their property rights if their names were not registered where they work. Mr. Rao clarified that the SIR exercise targets only duplicate, fake, deceased or illegal records and not genuine voters or any community.
