The bandh called by major parties – seeking support for 42% reservation in local body elections and putting pressure on the Telangana government and the central government – had limited impact on the streets of Hyderabad on Saturday (18 October 2025).
Normal life was not affected as restaurants, petrol stations, auto rickshaws were functioning normally. “Not only RTC buses are plying. Schools have declared holidays. Some shops and restaurants are open. It will remain so,” said a police officer at the Election Commission-mandated check post near Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet.

The busy intersection looked partially deserted as school buses and cars carrying school children were off the road. Petrol stations also operated as normal, as did private buses bringing commuters into the city. Hyderabad Metro also seemed unaffected by the stir call.

“Everything is working. We have less business because some of these offices are also closed,” said Shankar, an autqodriver standing near AAA Cinemas.
