Telangana AYUSH students, resident surgeons and postgraduates on Monday called off a 28-day strike following the assurance of Health Minister C. Damodara Raja Narasimha that their long-standing demand for increase in stipends would be resolved.

A delegation of AYUSH students, house surgeons, postgraduate doctors and student leaders met the minister in Hyderabad and apprised him of their grievances. The delegation highlighted the demand for increase in stipends for house surgeons and post-graduate AYUSH doctors, which they said remained pending for almost a decade. They sought parity with the stipend paid to their allopathic counterparts.

“The minister heard our concerns and assured us that the government will take a positive decision to increase the AYUSH stipends to par with allopathy. He also assured us that the necessary procedures will be completed and an official Government Order (GO) will be issued soon,” the doctors said in a statement.

After the assurance, the AYUSH students and doctors announced the withdrawal of their indefinite strike.
