Telangana’s government decided to assign houses within Indiramma Housing for Transgender to individuals who serve as transport assistants in Hyderabad, Minister Panchayat Raj and women and care for women and children, said Danasari Anasuya during the revision meeting on Monday 26 May).
Minister Danasari Anasuya, known as Seethak, said that the appointment of 44 Transgender individuals in December 2024 was a historical step not only for Telangan but for India as a whole. “This program provided exactly what promised, dignity, opportunity and integration,” said Minister, addressed higher officials, representatives of NGOs and traffic assistants themselves.
Of the 44, 38 currently works with the Police Transport Department Hyderabad. The Minister announced that Transgender individuals will now be assigned houses within the Indiramma Housing system as part of a disability quota and that more positions will be examined in other departments. “The goal is clear, equality on the occasion and a society that welcomes everyone,” she said.
She also mentioned the establishment of Maitri clinics in the districts and made sure that the efforts to create more opportunities for them in other government offices would be made. The Minister reiterated that the main objective of this program is to provide equal opportunities and integrate the transgender community into the company’s mainstream.
Police Commissioner Hyderabad CV Anand said that the entire recruitment process was completed in just ten days, according to the instructions of the main Minister A. Revant Reddy. “Nor was there a single complaint against any of the traffic assistants. They were determined in the area of obligation and behavior,” he said, adding that the ministry would also help those interested in private security roles.
Anith Ramacandran, secretary, women and childcare, said the initiative had pointed out national attention. “States are now calling for leadership. Telangana has taken a courageous, inclusive step that hit the chord throughout India,” she said. Traffic officials said the assistants integrated well into everyday operations, including manipulation of bandobast obligations and worked with discipline and determination.
Representatives of the Transgender community, many of whom have faced decades of exclusion and prejudice, said the initiative had changed their lives. “We have been invisible for 76 years. Today we wear the same uniform as home guards and stand next to the police with pride,” one of the assistants shared. “This is the first time we feel visible, respected and awarded.” They also asked them to extend the benefits of them as domestic guards, and thank the government for treating them as straight, not as with some exception. One member said, “We were afraid of the police. Now we are colleagues of the police.”
The TELANGANY Government is expected to further expand this initiative on the basis of feedback received in this review. For the time being, the state is the first in a country that formally integrated transgender people into government service.
