IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) outlined the Telangana government’s vision to position the state as a powerhouse in life sciences, particularly as a state to lead the next wave of innovation in the field.
Establishment of Life Sciences University, as an extension of Young India Skills University, to ensure a steady flow of availability of industry-ready talent pool and unveiling of next-generation Life Sciences Policy 2.0 will be some of the short-term initiatives of the government, the minister said.
Participating in a panel discussion on the famous Life Sciences Genome Valley cluster at the Telangana Rising Global Summit-2025 held at Bharat Future City, Mr. Sridhar Babu said that a new life sciences policy is to be launched at the upcoming World Economic Forum in Davos.
“We want Telangana to lead the next wave of innovation in life sciences. As the world is being reshaped by new technologies, digital transformation (the focus) is on how we can best position ourselves for the future… support bio-manufacturing (on a large scale),” the minister said.
Noting that Genome Valley, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has contributed to Hyderabad’s growth in the life sciences sector and is home to 250 companies from 18 countries, Mr. Sridhar Babu said that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has recently launched the One Bio pharma platform incubation facility as part of expansion projects.
Some of the other facilitation measures the government is considering to support the growth of the life sciences sector are a new energy policy that encourages companies to produce and use sustainable energy of their choice; and holding meetings of regulatory flow auditors. By 2047, the government wants to see Hyderabad as a powerhouse for global innovation and a preferred location for frontier technology work.
Earlier, setting the tone for the discussion, IT and Industries Minister Sanjay Kumar said the state government envisages a major role for Genome Valley as Telangana aims to become a $3 billion economy by 2047. The government is also working to approve the single window TG-iPASS 2.0 with a focus on faster regulatory clearance. Life Sciences Policy 2.0 will provide incentives for research and development (R&D) similar to those extended to manufacturing.
Aurobindo Pharma Whole Year Director, M. Madan Mohan Reddy; Laurus Labs Managing Director and CEO, Satyanarayana Chava; CEO of Indian Immunologicals, K. Anand Kumar; Granules CEO Priyanka Chigurupati participated in a panel discussion moderated by Director Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, Srikanth Oruganthi.
