A delegation from the Telangana Farmers Commission visited Sahyadri Farms and Sam Farms in Nasik on Tuesday to examine large-scale farm processing, Farmers’ Organization (FPO) operations and sustainable farming practices.
A team led by Commission Chairman M. Kodanda Reddy inspected the 120-acre Sahyadri Farms site and the 20-acre Sam Farms unit, which houses all the processing facilities for produce grown by member farmers. During the visit, members of the commission viewed several processing units that processed a wide variety of crops, including pomegranate, lemon, guava, grapes, sweet potato, tomato, banana, mango, maize, French beans and pineapple.
Officials from both the farms gave detailed demonstrations of processing, packaging, labelling, quality control and export standards and explained how produce from these units is supplied not only to various Indian states but also to international markets.
Mr. Reddy emphasized that Telangana farmers should also join FPOs to sell their produce together.
