BJP MP from Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday urged the youth to critically scrutinize political developments, saying there were attempts to undermine constitutional institutions.

Addressing the Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy youth interaction program organized at KLE University of Technology, Hubballi on Tuesday, he said that during the last six months attempts have been made to create instability and weaken constitutional institutions in the country.

While advocating the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Mr. Surya said the exercise is aimed at strengthening the electoral system.

Referring to the Congress’s claim that 13 lakh voters have been removed from the electoral roll, he cited the Election Commission’s explanation that the deletions include deceased voters, duplicate entries and people who have moved permanently.

Citing a World Bank survey, he said 56 million people had been lifted out of poverty in the last decade, which he attributed to the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. He urged young people to draw inspiration from developed countries.

“Ideological Direction”

During the interaction, BJP supporter Vishwanath Bijapur questioned the ideological direction of the party and said that it was changing and there was an increase in family politics in the party. He also asked why action is not being taken against those who are creating instability in the country.

Jason from Madikeri said the SIR exercise has caused hardship to voters whose names are missing from the electoral roll, forcing them to visit government offices with supporting documents.

He questioned the requirement for existing voters to submit Form 6 again. Several other students also expressed concerns.

MLAs Mahesh Tenginkai and Lingaraj Patil and former KLE director Shankranna Munavalli were present.
