The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) appointed Tejashwi Yadav as the working president of the party at its national executive meeting in Patna today, January 25, 2026.
Tejashwi Yadav was appointed as the working president of the RJD in the presence of his parents and former Bihar Chief Ministers, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi.
In a post on social media platform X, RJD informed, “Dawn of a new era! Shri @yadavtejashwi Ji has been appointed National Executive President of Rashtriya Janata Dal!”
Yadav’s elder sister, Patliputra MP Misa Bharti, who was rumored to be eyeing a party position, also attended the meeting, PTI reported.
Tejashwi, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, currently serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
On Saturday, he seemed confident of his promotion in the party and told RJD office workers that he was considering revamping the party structure from the booth level, the news portal noted.
Yadav and his close associates, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, were heavily blamed by his elder sister Rohini Acharya for the disappointing election results. She also claimed she was subjected to insults when she pressed for accountability.
Yadav’s elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav, who entered politics alongside him in 2015, was expelled from the party by Prasad last year. Tej Pratap has since introduced his own outfit, Janshakti Janta Dal, which is yet to make an appearance.
