The technical fault in the refrigeration storage box on the morgue led to faster decomposition of the body 46 years from Kodamthuruth Panchayat in Alappuzha, who died in a hospital after a heart failure 6 May 2025, according to a report on the medical superintendent of the Government Hospital in Aluva.
The relatives of the deceased argued that the authority had unfolded because the hospital authorities failed to turn on the unit after the placement after the investigation procedure around 21:00 6 May.
The report said there was no cooling inside the storage unit, although the indicator light on the switch showed it to work. Technical examination revealed that the unit sensor did not work. This led to insufficient cooling inside the unit and caused the body to decompose faster. The private agency was entrusted with repair work and the defect was corrected, she said.
Arunjith PA, a member of Kodamthuruth Gram Panchayat, filed at the ALUVA EAST 7. However, the hospital authorities claimed that it was a routine practice that turned off the unit at least 15 minutes before the body was excluded from cooling storage. The unit was turned on after the body was placed in the night of 6 May and the temperature was also recorded.
On Friday, the chairman of the Human Rights Commission in Keraral Alexander Thomas ordered a probe not less than the rank of divisional income officer on the incident based on media reports.
