Tech Mahindra employee protests outside campus over alleged termination after taking leave to care for sick daughter

A software employee staged a protest outside the Tech Mahindra campus in Dundigal on Thursday, alleging that she was arbitrarily terminated after she used three days of sick leave to care for her ailing daughter.

The employee, identified as Bhavana, claimed that she had been with the company for about four-and-a-half months when her services were terminated without prior notice or any valid reason.

According to her, she asked for leave to take care of her daughter, but was instead fired from her job.

Bhavana further alleged that she was previously harassed by the management when she was on a 14-day medical leave following a fall on the company’s premises. She claimed the company sent repeated emails asking her to continue working and warning her she would lose her job if she didn’t return.

Claiming a hostile work environment, Bhavana said she had to ask for permission even to use the toilet.

Responding to an email to The Hindu, Tech Mahindra said, “We have been in touch with the employee and are looking into the matter as a matter of urgency. Tech Mahindra is an employee-centric company and we remain committed to the welfare and safety of our employees.”
