
45 -year -old technical entrepreneur and scholar, Matias Augusto Travizano, died after he dropped nearly 2,000 feet, while the downward Mount Shasta in northern California.
According to the Siskiyou district office, Travizano was part of a group of three climbers who reached 14,000 feet in the peak of Stratovolcan 12 September.
The authorities said Travizano tried to slip down the ice slope to achieve safer soil, but lost control. He struck a boulder around 300 feet below, which knocked him unconscious. The climber tried to reach him, but could not close the distance before regaining consciousness.
“Mr. Travizano has regained consciousness and began to move,” Sheriff’s office said. “Tragically, this movement released him from the rock and slipped for the rest of the glacier and slipped out of sight.”
The third mountaineer raised the alarm and the deputies responded to the scene around 14:27 searching and rescue teams searched the mountain on the ground and air. After several hours, Travizan’s body was discovered at a height of about 10,200 feet near the base of the iceberg.
The authorities confirmed that it fell nearly 2,000 feet from their last known position.
