Teachers’ unions in Andhra Pradesh strongly object to what they describe as a coercive tactics that are used to register as mentors within the government initiative “P4” (public private partnership). They demanded that participation in the drive with poverty eradication should be performed completely voluntary.
Member of the AP Legislative Council from the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF), B. Gopi Murty, on Sunday called for immediate suspension of “forced” registration of teachers as guides and mentors of P4. “Individuals may be encouraged to volunteer, but the publication of circular people through collectors and district educational officers (DeOS), which is compulsory, is unacceptable,” he said. If such practices were not stopped, his party would warn, joined the hands with the teacher’s unions to start protest.
Teachers’ Federation Andhra Pradesh (Aptf-1938) also repeated that the registration process must remain voluntary. His state president, G. Hrhasaraju, pointed out that many teachers had already helped the disadvantaged without being forced. He added that in some districts officials insisted on compulsory acceptance of “families of Bangar”, which undermines the spirit of voluntary service.
Similarly, the Federation of Teachers Andr Pradesh United teachers condemned what is called “forced” registration of government school heads and teachers as mentors. The head of the Federation of N. Venkateswarl and the Prazad KSS claimed that teachers had been damaged by online links, with instructions to complete the registration within two days. According to these directives, each director is expected to accept five families, while each teacher must accept two.
The heads of the trade unions criticized the government’s approach and stated that the lukewarm public reaction to the appeal of the main Minister for P4 has led to disproportionate pressure on government employees. They also expressed their dissatisfaction with the government for not publishing any darling (DA) contribution (DA) last year, postponing the appointment of Commissioner for the 12th Commission for Revision of Sales and not clearing the inconvenience of 20,000 GBP Crore. They suggested that elected representatives and higher bureaucrats should first move forward to adopt families within the P4 system before expecting to participate in local level.
