Teachers are the agents of change leading from the front in the government’s drive to transform the education system, Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Nara Lokesh has said.
Interacting with 37 outstanding teachers from government schools across the state who recently embarked on a study tour to Singapore at his Undavalli residence on Friday, Mr. Lokesh said those who work hard and excel will receive special recognition.
The teachers informed him about the educational practices they observed during the visit and the possibilities of their implementation in Andhra Pradesh.
The HRD minister said that meaningful social transformation is possible only through education, adding that he has studied the world’s best models of education.
The education department will play a key role in achieving Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of Swarna Andhra as implementation of advanced technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) can only be achieved through the education system, he said.
He encouraged teachers trained abroad to become change makers and replicate the practices they learned in Singapore at the school, cluster and mandal levels and instruct fellow teachers.
The minister said that achieving the desired transformation in the education system cannot happen overnight and pointed out that more than 1 million students have transferred from private schools to government schools this year, which he described as a positive development.
Teacher Transfer Act
He said the government had passed the Teachers Transfer Act, which ensures transparent transfers and promotions based on seniority, without any scope for influence or referral. He expressed confidence in the ability of teachers and urged them to introduce the AP Model of Education to the world.
He said the first step has already been taken and emphasized the need to focus on learning outcomes and analytical thinking. The Minister also encouraged teachers to focus on capacity building through the Singapore Study Tour.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner, School Education Department Thameem Ansaria; AP State Council of Educational Research and Training (APSCERT) Director M. Venkata Krishna Reddy and others.
