
Leaders of both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSRCP are ready to step up after the state election commissioner recently announced the date for the Nellore Municipal Corporation mayoral elections.
In a notice, the SEC directed officials to conduct the election on February 26 at 11 am. If the election cannot be held on the scheduled date, officials have been directed to conduct it compulsorily on the following day, February 27. The Nellore Mayoral seat was reserved for a woman candidate from the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
After the resignation of former mayor Potluri Sravanthi, deputy mayor Roop Kumar Yadav of the TDP has been the interim mayor in charge. Mr. Yadav along with Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati on Tuesday
He explained to the Chief Minister the developmental works he had carried out as the acting Mayor in the last few months. Mr. Naidu is said to have congratulated him and wished him a good future.
Meanwhile, Ms. Sravanthi met Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in New Delhi and discussed with him the problems of tribal people in the state. On the same day, she also met Chairman of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Welfare Committee Faggan Singh Kulaste in New Delhi. She discussed various issues of STs in the state with him in detail.
