TDP to earmark 34% seats for BC in local body elections, says Naidu
The TDP will give 34% of the Backward Classes (BC) seats in the upcoming local body elections, says Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Addressing a rally during the ‘Mee Bhoomi – Mee Hakku’ program at Narsingolu village in Kondapi constituency of Praksasam district on Friday, Mr Naidu termed BC as the backbone of the TDP.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s verdict on reservation for BCs, the chief minister said the TDP would continue to support them and ensure their representation through the party.
“The party has consistently worked for its social, economic and political progress and stands with BC by securing 34% representation for them,” he said.
Mr. Naidu alleged that it was the YSRCP who reduced the reservation for BCs to 24% from the earlier 34%, which hurt their interests. “YSRCP leaders approached the courts to prevent the local body elections citing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise,” he said.
