A total of 155 Tasmac branches in Namakkal and many branches in Salem downed their shutters on Monday (November 2, 2026) to protest against the introduction of new environmental and welfare tax.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, three customers went to a shop in Pillur near Paramathi Velur, returned empty liquor bottles and demanded money. Due to server problems, the bottles could not be scanned and this resulted in an argument between the customers and the seller, Purusothaman (46). During the argument, the three men hit Purusothaman with a bottle and he sustained injuries. He was admitted to Paramathi Velur Government Hospital.

Similarly, customers assaulted another Marimuthu dealer at the Nallar outlet and damaged his two-wheeler.

In Salem district, following complaints that Tasmac workers were collecting excess money for bottles, officials inspected a shop on Venkatappa Chetty Street in Pal Market on Sunday evening. They found the allegations to be true. Subsequently, salesmen Senthil, Pachaperumal and manager Govindan were suspended.
