According to a report from The Times of Indiathe man, identified as K Mahendran, allegedly cut his throat in extreme desperation. The incident took place just hours before the official counting of votes began.
Police officials said Mahendran was deeply affected by the speculations that were doing the rounds about the electoral prospects of Vijay, who had recently entered politics. Rescued by locals, he is undergoing treatment
Eyewitnesses at the scene acted quickly to prevent further damage. Mahendran was rescued by passers-by and rushed to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
