The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has convened an Empanelment Committee (ECM) meeting in Delhi on May 11 to select the names of three qualified officers suitable for appointment as Director General of Police/Chief of Police (DGP/HoPF) of the Tamil Nadu Police.
The next DGP/HoPF, who is expected to be appointed by the newly elected government in the second week of this month, will have a minimum tenure of two years irrespective of the date of superannuation as per Supreme Court directions in the Prakash Singh case. The Chief Secretary and Home Minister would represent Tamil Nadu in the ECM, which was postponed on two earlier occasions.
