Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has filed an appeal in the Madras High Court against a single judge’s refusal to interfere with the imposition of a ₹1.5 crore penalty imposed on him by the Income Tax (IT) department for not voluntarily making additional income of ₹5 crore during the financial year. 2015-16.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy of the High Court dismissed the 2022 motion on 6 February 2026 after finding that he was only dismissing the action on the basis that the penalty order was made within the limitation period set out in section 275(1)(a).
