As part of the nationwide protest, the CPI, CPI(M) and VCK staged a demonstration outside the State Bank of India in Fort on Thursday morning. The cadres of the three parties raised slogans against the Union government, demanding a reduction in the price of commercial gas cylinders and reversal of the decision to reduce railway vacancies.
They claimed that the increase in the price of commercial gas cylinders has hit the poor and middle class. While the price of oil has come down drastically in the past, the Union government has not reduced the price of petrol and diesel and this only benefits the oil companies. Likewise, Indian Railways is planning to cut two percent of the sanctioned seats, which is destroying the dreams of the youth and this decision should be withdrawn immediately, they added.
CPI District Secretary A. Mohan, CPI (M) District Secretary A. Ramamoorthy and other functionaries participated in the protest.
