Uthangarai (Reserved) Constituency, created after the delimitation process in 2008, formed an AIADMK stronghold constituency, with the AIADMK winning the seat since the first elections in 2011. The party won three consecutive terms.
In this election, Uthangarai is heading for a two-cornered contest with the AIADMK returning to the fray with its incumbent MLA TM Tamilselvam defeating the Congress by 28,387 votes.
