Yercaud constituency (ST), which includes Yercaud and Vazhapadi taluks as well as parts of Salem and Attur taluks, is a predominantly tribal area. The tribal population is primarily based in Yercaud, Neiyamalai, Aranoortumalai, Jambuthumalai, Pelapadi and Santhumalai. It is considered a stronghold of the AIADMK as the party has won eight times – 1977, 1980, 1989 (as AIADMK (J)), 1991, 2001, 2011, 2016 and 2021. The AIADMK also won the by-elections held in 2013, the Congress won 57,193 in 1933. 1984 and DMK in 1967, 1971, 1996 and 2006.
