After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Mitha Lal, 65, was among those residents who checked the names on the electoral rolls at Sowcarpet in the Harbor Assembly constituency in Chennai’s central business district. “My name is on the rolls in Harbor constituency. When I came to Chennai as a teenager from Bakra village in Jalore district of Rajasthan, I never registered my name in the voter rolls of my native village,” he said.
Walking along the paved path of the Chennai Corporation Park near Mint Street near the constituency boundary along with his neighbor Kanti Lal of Mount Abu, whose name was removed during the SIR, Mr. Lal said he had always longed to be a voter in the Harbor constituency because of the favorable conditions for business with peace and harmony between communities that the elected government provides.
