For more than three decades, the villages of Kalappanaickenpalayam, Somayampalayam and Kasthurinaickenpalayam in Coimbatore district have kept their walls free of political party posters, flags, bills and paintings. Election campaigns take place through direct contact between candidates and voters.
The practice was followed through local understanding. Political parties and their supporters do not display any form of exhibition material in public spaces. Walls, compound buildings and common areas remain free of signs and posters throughout the year.
