Are you a registered voter in Tamil Nadu and getting ready to cast your vote in the assembly elections to be held on April 23? Still waiting for your latest Electoral ID Card, also known as EPIC? You don’t have to wait – you can download your e-EPIC yourself.
If your name is on the electoral roll and your mobile number is registered with the Election Commission of India and linked to your EPIC, you can download your e-EPIC from https://voters.eci.gov.in.
Once on the portal, click on the ‘E-EPIC Download’ option. You can login using your mobile number or your EPIC number. After entering the captcha, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
Enter the OTP for verification and login. You will then be prompted again to enter your EPIC number along with the state where it is registered. Your name and assembly constituency details will appear on the screen.
Next, you will need to complete a second verification using another OTP sent to your mobile number. After successful verification, you can download your e-EPIC to your phone, tablet or computer and save it for future use.
Officials said physical EPICs are being shipped as quickly as possible. In the meantime, voters are encouraged to use the online option to access their e-EPIC.
Details in e-EPIC
e-EPIC contains details such as voter’s name, relative’s name (as mentioned at the time of registration), gender, date of birth, address and assembly constituency. It also contains the part number and the name and address of the polling station.
Voters should note that polling station details given in e-EPIC reflect the latest allocation at the time of download. As polling stations may change, voters are encouraged to check their polling station details in advance.
Is only a voter’s card enough to vote?
The e-EPIC clearly states that it serves as proof of identity for voting purposes, but simply having it does not guarantee that your name will be on the electoral roll. Voters must check their name on the current electoral roll before each election when they visit https://voters.eci.gov.in.
It also clarifies that the date of birth listed in e-EPIC should not be used as proof of age for any purpose other than voter registration.
e-EPIC is valid across India if the voter is enrolled in the electoral roll. It also includes a secure QR code that can be verified by election officials using an authorized app.
