IND vs WI T20 WORLD CUP 2026: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir faced heavy trolling after India sealed their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA T20 World Cup 2026. On Sunday, March 1, India defeated the West Indies by five wickets in their Super 8 clash at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, chasing a challenging 196 with four balls to spare.
Earlier in the tournament, Amir claimed that while Pakistan may or may not qualify, India would definitely not make it to the top four. “Pakistan qualifies. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (It doesn’t matter if Pakistan qualifies or not, India doesn’t),” he said in Haarna Mana Hai, surprising even the host of the show.
However, India responded strongly on the field. They started their Super 8 campaign with a painful 76-run defeat against South Africa. But they staged a stunning comeback, beating Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium and then outclassing the West Indies to book their place in the semi-finals. After India stormed to the last four, fans took to social media to call out Amir for his premature prediction.
Here is how Mohammad Amir was trolled by fans
India scored their most successful chase in T20 World Cup history and the highest run ever in a T20I at the Eden Gardens to have the last laugh. The emphatic win not only highlighted their batting depth but also showcased their composure under pressure on the big stage.
The win had added significance as it served as redemption for their painful exit in 2016 when West Indies knocked them out in the semi-finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This time, India turned the tables in style, rewriting records in iconic Kolkata and settling old scores.
HOW SAMSON PLAYED BLINDER IN CALCUTTA
Samson produced the innings of his life to power India past the West Indies in a high-pressure Super 8 clash to book a semi-final spot. Chasing a daunting target without Virat Kohli in the 11th and history against them, India were rocked early as Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan fell cheaply to the overs. At 41 for 2, tension gripped Eden Gardens.
Samson replied with remarkable composure. He produced a stunning 97 off just 50 balls, hitting 12 fours and four sixes, anchoring the chase with authority and composure. Rather than forcing the issue, he built the innings methodically, controlling the tempo and ensuring the required speed never spun.
His 58-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav leveled the innings, while cameos from Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube provided support.
Samson remained unbeaten as India completed the record chase in 19.2 overs, producing a master class in temperament and finishing under immense pressure. With seven needed from six balls, Samson smashed Romario Shepherd for a six over leg before lifting the winning runs over mid-off to seal the chase in style.
Samson will be looking to continue his form when Suryakumar’s India take on Harry Brook’s England on Thursday, March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
