A new chemical imported from the United States, called ‘Dew Cure’, will be used at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium ahead of the India vs Zimbabwe Super 8 to tackle humidity on the pitch, according to the Indian Express. With temperatures soaring in the city over the past week, dew is expected to play a major role in India’s must-win clash with Zimbabwe.
IND vs ZIM, World Cup T20: Preview
However, this may not be the case on Thursday. When the Chepauk surface was resurfaced before the T20 World Cup, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) imported Dew Cure from the US, which is widely used in Major League Baseball stadiums. In preparations to prepare the ground for the India-Zimbabwe clash, the chemical was mixed with water and sprayed on the outfield on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The plan is to use her again on Thursday afternoon so that she can be at her full potential before the start of the match. The toss of the game is at 18:30 IST with the first ball scheduled to be bowled half an hour later.
“Once the Dew Cure is sprayed, it ensures that there is no moisture on the grass leaves. Once it gets wet, it soaks in and the grass leaves dry,” a source close to the process told Indian Express.
The Indian team, which had a long and extensive practice session on Wednesday, stayed back to watch the dew on the ground. The hosts are reported to be happy with the conditions.
WILL DEW CURE BE USED AGAIN AT THE T20 WORLD CUP?
It is reported that the Dew Cure may be used during the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals and finals, but there is no official confirmation on the matter yet. However, it is said that the BCCI may make it mandatory to use the product at all venues during IPL 2026.
India need to beat Zimbabwe on Thursday to ensure their semi-final hopes stay alive.
