Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of England in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2026. The Salman Agha-led side lost by two wickets on Tuesday, February 24, leaving them in a precarious position in the tournament. After playing two matches in the Super 8s, Pakistan have just one point in their pocket and are in danger of an early exit.
Can Pakistan qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-finals from here? Well, yes. But the equation got out of hand. England have already qualified for the semi-finals from Group 2, which means New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka battle it out for second place.
ENG vs PAK T20 WORLD CUP 2026: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD
Here’s the downside for Pakistan: they are the only team apart from England to have played two matches in the Super 8s.
HOW CAN PAKISTAN STILL QUALIFY FOR THE SEMI-FINALS?
Scenario one
Pakistan must win against Sri Lanka and hope that Sri Lanka and England beat New Zealand.
This way, New Zealand will finish with a single point and Sri Lanka will finish with two points, knocking both teams out of the tournament, while Pakistan will qualify with three points.
Scenario two
Pakistan need to win by a big margin against Sri Lanka and then hope that New Zealand will win only one match and have a worse Net Run Rate than them.
This way, Pakistan qualify for the NRR with the group divided on points. Pakistan’s advantage is that they play their last match a day after New Zealand on February 28. So if they remain in contention until then, they will know what they have to do in the final game to clinch a semi-final spot.
