A deputy collector in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman on the pretext of marriage, just months after he was suspended for allegedly misbehaving with another woman, police said on Thursday (June 4, 2026).
According to the police, a 30-year-old woman lodged a complaint at the Civil Lines police station in Morena against Deputy Collector Arvind Mahour, who alleged that he had sexually abused her on numerous occasions with the promise of marriage.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Chambal Range, Sunil Kumar Jain, told The Hindu that Mr Mahour was arrested late on Wednesday (June 3) night after an FIR was lodged against him under relevant provisions, including Section 69 (Sexual intercourse by fraudulent means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“He was produced before the court today (Thursday) and was sent to judicial custody,” Mr. Jain said, adding that the woman had alleged that he had exploited her on various occasions, including when he was posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Sabalgarh area.
A police officer at the police station said the woman also claimed their relationship had lasted for more than a year and that he had “established relations with her” several times between March 2025 and June 2026.
“She said he also took her to government guest houses on some occasions,” said the officer, requesting anonymity.
The woman also accused Mr Mahour of threatening to harm her and her family when she proposed to him, the officer added.
Mr. Mahour was earlier suspended in September, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav himself taking cognizance of complaints against him and ordering action against him.
Mr. Mahour was accused of misbehaving with a woman and also of irregularities in transfers of patwaris during his tenure as SDM, Sabalgarh.
However, it was restored after some time.
