Suspected Telugu Desam Party activists attacked the house of former minister and YSR Congress Party leader Jogi Ramesh in NTR Police Commissionerate limits on Sunday.
The protesters alleged that the former minister had made inappropriate remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh and raised slogans against Mr. Ramesh.
According to YSRCP leaders, the agitators removed banners displayed outside his residence in Ibrahimpatnam, barged into the house, set fire to furniture and damaged glass panes.
Neighbors said panic gripped the area as flames shot from the top floor of the building, forcing residents to run for safety.
Mr Jogi Ramesh and his family members were not present in the house at the time of the incident, said a neighbour, who did not wish to be named.
After the attack, which took place in broad daylight, tension prevailed at Ibrahimpatnam Junction and near the former minister’s residence.
On learning about the incident, YSRCP activists rushed to the spot and raised anti-TDP slogans.
