Suspected drunken driving at Hyderabad’s ECIL in which seven bar staff were injured

Seven bar and restaurant workers were injured, three of them seriously, after they were hit from behind by a car driven by a drunk driver in the early hours of September 29 near ECIL.

Police have identified the driver as Pavan Kumar, 36. He has been issued a notice and his blood samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis as part of an investigation into suspected drink-driving.

The accident took place around 12.30 pm near the high school when the workers were walking home after finishing their shift at a bar and restaurant in SP Nagar, Moula Ali.

According to the complaint filed by their associate Vikram Kumar (25), a Hyundai Verna car came from behind at high speed and allegedly hit the group. The driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene.

Ajay Kumar, Bipin Kumar Yadav and Rajesh Yadav sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital. Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Ranjan Yadav, Biwash Kumar and Kapender Yadav suffered bleeding injuries.

The injured were first taken to a private hospital in ECIL for first aid and then shifted to another hospital for further treatment. Three of them were admitted due to the severity of their injuries.

The Kushaiguda police registered a case under Section 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint received around 2 am. Further investigation is ongoing.
