
The legendary chess player Susal Polgar appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his interest in chess and support of his country players. PM Modi recently congratulated the World Championship D Gukesh for his first victory against Magnus Carlsen in the 6th round of the Norwegian chess 2025.
The post attracted the attention of Susal Polgar, who asked if the leader of another country about his chess players. She mentioned President Javier Milei of Arantina as the only other person he knows.
“Are there the leaders of nations who tweece about their chess players? I know only about one other, Javier Mileim, tweeting about Faustino Oro. @Fide_chess @ECUOnline @chessbaseindia,” Susan wrote on her x account.
In another post, Susan shared a letter received from Prime Minister Modi four years ago, thanking her for her work with Indian students and support for Indian players.
“A few years ago, I received it from Prime Minister Modi for my work with Indian students and the support of Indian players. His office contacted me directly for my address to express their letter. I did not request it, but appreciated his gesture.
Meanwhile, Gukesh is currently fourth in the Norwegian chess and won three out of eight matches. After registration of the historical victory over Magnus Carlsen, Gukesh also secured his first classic victory over colleagues countryman Arjun Erigaisi in the dramatic seventh round. Erigasi is also fifth with two wins out of eight matches.
When Gukesh thought about his victory over his colleague Countryman, he said, “I felt like I was losing control at some point and gradually playing.
