Suryansh Shedge may have produced one of the most important knocks for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, but the youngster is not getting carried away. After saving his side from collapse against Gujarat Titans, Shedge made it clear that personal milestones or selection chatter are far from his mind.
I’m coming at a point where PBKS were already in troubleShedge’s 57 off 29 balls gave his team a fighting total of 163/9. However, speaking after the game, he brushed aside any talk of a “race” for places or personal advancement.

“It’s not a race sir. It’s not a race. We’re here to win a trophy. I look at it from that perspective. That’s the last thing on my mind, the progress of cricket. I just want to give 100% to the team. So I don’t look at it from that perspective, sir,” Shedge said.
Despite his extraordinary effort, the batsman admitted that he could have done more in the situation.
“I think I should have stayed there because I was ready. And if I had let the ball go, things would have been different. I think I learned to stay calmer and stay present. So next time I will be more careful,” he added.
His innings came as Punjab reeled at 47 for 5, with Mohammed Siraj and the GT pace unit dismantling the top order. What followed was not just a revival, but a shift in momentum.
HOW SHEDGE SAVED PBKS FROM THE BIG COLLAPSE
Shedge didn’t walk in a hurry to save the inning. First he read the situation.
There was no panic in his approach. No desperate swings. Instead, he took his time, absorbed the pressure and built his innings with clarity. He picked his moments carefully against a disciplined attack led by Kagis Rabada and Jason Holder.
With Marcus Stoinis at the other end, the two stitched a decisive 79-run stand for the sixth wicket. It was this partnership that gave PBKS a way back into the game.
The turning point came in the 14th over.
Facing Manav Suthar, Shedge shifted gears and tore him apart, smashing 6, 6, 4, 4, 6 to collect 26 runs and get his fifty in just 24 balls. On a field where scoring was hard work, the explosion instantly changed the mood.
By the time Shedge fell one behind Rabada, PBKS had moved from damage control to a competitive total. It wasn’t the winning score, but it was enough to keep the game alive.
Without this innings, the competition might not have lasted until the final.
WHY SHEDGE IS NOT WATCHING ‘RACE’
The conversation around the middle-order spots, especially with the Indian team in mind, is ever-present. But Shedge doesn’t go for it.
His focus, he explained, remains simple, contributing to the team and staying present in the moment. This approach also showed in his innings, where he didn’t try to do too much too soon.
Even after a knock that stood out in a losing cause, it wasn’t the runs for him, but what he could have done better if he stayed till the end.
For players who are still early in their IPL journey, this clarity can be as important as the runs themselves.
