Suryakumar Yadav is getting a big ranking position in an ideal preparation for the T20 World Cup

January 28, 2026

India captain Suryakumar Yadav has earned a major boost in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, climbing five places to No.7 after his prolific performances in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. His rebirth comes at an ideal time, with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 just days away, and marks a return to form that fans and pundits have been eagerly awaiting for over a year.

Yadav now holds 717 rating points thanks to crucial contributions in the first three matches of the series. After a lean patch, he made a stunning comeback in the second T20I in Raipur, scoring an unbeaten 82 off 37 balls— his first fifty in 24 innings and 468 days. That knock led India to a commanding chase of 209 with 28 balls to spare, showcasing his ability to both anchor the innings and step up when required.

He continued his rich run of form in the third T20I in Guwahati, hitting a fluent 57 not out from 26 deliveries to help India complete the series 3-0 in just 10 overs. Yadav is currently the top scorer of the series with 171 runs from three matches at an average of 171 and a strike rate of 201.17, underlining his exceptional consistency and dominance ahead of the T20 World Cup.

ABHISHEK EXTENDS THE LEAD

Abhishek Sharma has been in sensational form and extended his lead at the top of the T20I batting charts to 80 points after two brilliant half-centuries. He scored the second fastest fifty by an Indian in the third T20I, reaching the milestone in just 14 ballsfollowing his earlier knock of 84 runs in the first T20I in Nagpur. His current rating of 929 points is just two short of his career high of 931 achieved during last year’s Asia Cup.

In the bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah climbed four places to 13th in the latest T20I rankings after taking three crucial wickets in the third match, winning the Player of the Match award.

India are now chasing a 4-0 series when they take on New Zealand in the fourth T20I on Wednesday, January 28. The team will look to maintain their dominant momentum while ensuring that stars like Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah remain in top form ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
