In addition, a survey has been approved for the construction of a 45.30 km long new railway line between Machilipatnam and Repalle to provide a direct and shorter link between the two cities.
“The survey is going on for the preparation of DPR,” he said to a question from Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry.
The Union Minister said that Machilipatnam and Repalle were already connected through Vijayawada Junction on the existing rail network and doubling of the Machilipatnam-Gudivada-Vijayawada line was recently completed, which would improve connectivity with Machilipatnam Port.
Mr. Vaishnaw said that 39 projects (12 new lines and 27 doubling) have been approved as on 1 April 2025, covering a total length of 4,498 km, falling wholly/partially in Andhra Pradesh and costing approximately ₹70,231 crore. Of these, 1,179 km of tracks have been commissioned and an expenditure of ₹28,039 crore has been incurred till March 2025.
