The surveyors, who are currently on survey work across the state, have threatened to stop work from Tuesday (January 27) if their demands are not met by the government.
There are 9,500 special inspectors across the state who find their work a daunting task due to the failure to provide aids such as laptops and carts to multiple supervisors in the hierarchy, making coordination difficult and increasing working hours. Many of them felt tired of “unrealistic deadlines”.
Over 2,000 members of the Village Surveyors Association of Andhra Pradesh (VSAAP) from all 28 districts gathered in Tirupati for the 5th state conference held on Sunday, where the members criticized the step-motherly treatment given to inspectors as compared to their counterparts working in other Gram and Ward divisions.
Demanding pay parity, the inspectors wanted a basic pay of ₹32,000 for those who completed five years of service. As part of the rationalization process, 4,722 village surveyors should be absorbed through the counseling process into allied departments, association president B. Madhu Babu said.
While they insisted that a diploma was the minimum qualification, they wanted a fixed technical salary scale because they had skills like QGIS, CORS and AutoCAD.
“The government is aware of our importance and should also offer promotion to Grade I up to 70% at the district level,” added Chief Secretary M. Mahesh Naidu.
